I made another hand made book

October 12, 2008

Not a scrap book, but a small pen and ink  book that my little girl can color in and have a keep sake later of her adventures with her mother.  I wrote one earlier about what would roughly happen for my brother’s wedding, where she was the flowergirl.  See her pedal on the finger photo above. But this time it was about missing her Papa and visiting friends. We invited, our american friends to our beach house for 3 glorious days of beach, bike riding, and horseback. This is her favorite stable horse Banjo.

This naughty little shetland pony would rather eat grass than give her a ride, but my little one does not seem to mind the frequent stops when catching up means she gets to gallop once and a while. She truly has her mother’s love for speed, and galloping horse I could not get enough of when I was healthy ( with out cancer)

A home is seen Sept. 17, 2008, in Saginaw, Mich. With a winning bid of just $1.75, a Chicago woman has won an auction for the abandoned home in Saginaw. Joanne Smith, 30, recently was the top bidder for the home during an auction on eBay, The Saginaw News reported, in September 2008. Her bid was one of eight for the home. She must pay about $850 in back taxes and yard cleanup costs.

I did look at houses close to where my mother lives after hearing a house from my friend is for sale and I know that the house was well maintained.

My picks were also the low ball, but I know the area well enough to know it is always a good investment in a close knit community.

This house I chose is about the same cost as my european car.

28,000 euro

33,300 us dollar

I wonder if I could offer them cash with 20 percent off the price? Just a fantasy, but if the house is still on the market in December, I will go take a look at it.

Going Pink because Pink Rocks!

October 1, 2008

I was just getting dressed, no let me restate, I was being dressed by my 3 year old. She picked out a pink shirt, blue sweat pants, ( don’t have pink yet or she would have color coordinated) and grabs from my table my pink ribbon power bracelet. I was shocked to see her hand me something I have not worn in months, but now I don’t think I am ever taking it off again.

I am not going to complain about pink items for sale or how sick I am of hearing about breast cancer awareness.   No, I am proud to wear my pink because Pink Rocks! If I can make one person more aware of breast cancer then I have achieved my private goal of one new person a day that will get checked and face the facts that one out of 8 women get breast cancer.

I will not complain that star power brings light to this very heavy subject, thank you Sheryl Crow, Susan Applegate, bless you for going on Oprah and using your star power for good of the breast cancer cause. I too have a star on stand up 2 cancer, just type in Weatherly PA and look for my star to donate to Research that is desparately needed.

I might not have the strength to run a marathon for the sake of cancer, but I am sure if I could  I would!

If you want to participate Here is a list to get you started!

door closes window open saga continues

September 12, 2008

My cleaning lady of over 7 years, shows up to my house exhausted. Just physically drained. This is a familiar and recognizable look to any cancer patient.  She tells me she is tired in her sweet loving Ghana’s accent. I ask her to go home and rest. First a cup of tea to think it over, and she agreed she needed to go home and rest. I can really tell the difference when my house is not clean, but a persons health is way more important than a fresh bathroom smell.  So off she went for some R&R. ( military term for rest and relaxation)baby carrier Ghana style

But before she left she had heard my plight of trying to find a new girl. She suggested I call on Z. Z is like a relative from the old country… there is a branch of our family back in Croatia, ex-Yugoslavia that we just don’t know. For me she fills that family gap. She cooks amazing ethnic food, yes fatty but fantastic.  She brings me back to my roots.

Wouldn’t you know it, she answers my call on the first ring and agrees on the spot to come back and baby sit/ help cook and clean up. I am so thrilled beyond measure. I scratch out  some potential dates on a small piece of 3m sticky paper and we are off and running again, Thursdays with potential Friday afternoons and Monday early evenings, for that late afternoon rush to cook clean up, bath and bed.

Our first day back wth Z goes good.  I need to go shopping for art supplies and find myself from the direction of Z in an Aldi which gives me a feeling of being home in an American supermarket. We head off to the church to light a candle, and to teach a 3 year old about prayer followed by a children’s petting zoo, and then I moved on to do some further shopping, waving goodbye  to my love-bug and our trusted friend Z.

At the end of the day … life is worth living. Thanks to a wonderful suggestion from a lady from Ghana.

Stop wearing white? nonsense

September 8, 2008

My little love bug was trying to convince me she could wear white shoes in September. What does a 3 year old know about fashion rules, do and don’t.  I live a less stringent life now and I am a big push over if she remembers to say please.

When I got to the waiting room of the hospital I had to laugh because there was at least 3 women still wearing white from head to toe. There is no need to scold your kid into old fashion ways. Live and let live is the new motto for this cancer patient.

Today I have something to live for. My tumor marker is was 77. Down from 92, and I am enjoying life like never before.  When the girls asked about their presents that I gave them, asking me what the occasion is …I simply stated that it was the beginning of my 3rd year of chemo. Shocking everyone in the room.  I did not say if for the shock effect, but for the unbelievable care I have received so far. Can you even have imaged that this could happen? It’s unheard of!

What a big day we had

September 4, 2008

Just getting warmed up in the waiting room. I hope she can follow the instructions. She did well for such a short half hour of time playing follow the leader. The instructor talked in English the majority of the time, forcing my little one to concentrate on every word. These moments give me great joy, I must have taken 6 or 7 videos to let Daddy see what a big day we had at Ballet school.

I’ll do it myself … thank you

September 3, 2008

I am not good with dealing with administrative pencil pushers who only want me to answer there specific questions so that I can be officially labeled and placed in the proverbial box. Yesterday the news of not getting a invalid car crashed down on me pretty hard.

canta with a child seat

canta with a child seat

I tried to tell her that if she does not give the local Government advise on getting this car I will end up with something like this instead.

With the offer of adding a child’s bike seat to the back of it? I am not kidding this is the advise you get from socialized medicine in ACTION. It is the bait and switch technique in full glory. Not am I disturbed by the news I for the first time am mad at my local Government which my hubby runs! I truly am seathing to the point that I put on my American boot straps attitude and said to the pencil pusher, …Forget it, sorry for all your work, but I will do it my self…Thank you very much.

Since then I have been combing marktplaats.nl for a second hand vehicle. to my behold there are at least 6 contenders to choose from. Obviously the store that sells these vehicles can deliver one to my house for a test drive. I am serious and have offed hard cold cash for a 1 year old one in good working order. I have had enough of the pencil pushers pinching pennies. I have had an e-mail or two already about purchasing something in the range of 2500.00 Euros. plus or minus 4 grand.

I am off for the weekend, yes I know it is Thursday, but I need to let off some steam from this  ridiculous story.

test drive a invalid car

September 2, 2008

I’m waiting for the dealer to drop off a small car and let me have a test drive. I have not been behind the wheel since I have acquired a neck brace and a 3 year old.  I have had a driver’s license since my 16Th birthday, but don’t dare drive in a big city. Too many bikes who have the right of way in the great city of Amsterdam , 600,000 bikes. I personally own 3 bikes, my mountain, my cruiser and my electric.

I got my European license when I moved 8 years ago this November. I wonder what it will be like to drive again. I am trying to recapture my freedom. Having mobility is freedom to me. I will be able to take my girl to ballet school, myself. I will be able to go to the gym in the winter, Myself.  I will be able to take my girl to the swimming lessons, MYSELF! Independence for myself is so important to me now.

YES I am disabled, but I am not down and out! I am looking forward to getting in my tiny vehicle and putter around the city like never before.  I can use the bike paths and not be worried about traffic. The vehicle is also automatic which is a plus, as an American I see the stick shift as a poverty option. But in Europe, automatic is only for the invalid, you are not really driving until you are driving stick!

Tun Fun

July 11, 2008

Yesterday I went to a big indoor jungle gym called tun fun instead of Tons of Fun. The noise inside was deafening that I went out to get earplug from the local druggist. But today is a down day as a result. I call then P-Jays days, where you wear your pajamas until lunch! My student au-pair is still with us but talking to other potential employers via Facebook. We all needed a bit of fun and a memory to store in the brain for later.
